Bypass Tunisia : gastric bypass operation

Bypass Tunisia: what is gastric bypass in Tunisia?

Bypass surgery in Tunisia is a weight loss surgery. It involves short-circuiting the stomach in order to change the way it processes the food you eat. The stomach is thus reduced to a small pouch. This reduces the amount of food ingested, but also its assimilation by the body. You will feel full with less food than usual.

Types of bypass surgery in Tunisia

There are two types of bypass in Tunisia:

Bypass surgery in Tunisia: what you need to know before you start

The first step is a complete pre-operative workup. The obese patient will need to undergo various tests and laboratory examinations before surgery. He or she will need to consult a group of specialists, namely a nutritionist, a cardiologist, an endocrinologist, a pulmonologist and a psychiatrist, in order to ensure that the operation does not represent any danger to his or her health.

Surgical follow-up of the bypass operation in Tunisia

The bypass in Tunisia or the gastric bypass is an intervention with little pain. Simple painkillers are enough to calm the slight pain that may be felt.

The resumption of mobility is rapid (usually the same evening). It is recommended that you resume light activity as soon as you leave the clinic. Professional activities can be resumed after 3 to 4 weeks. Sports activities can be resumed after about 1 month*.

During the first month, you should eat only liquids. During the first 15 days of the second month, it should be pasty and taken at regular intervals. During the next 15 days, it should be chopped, divided (6 times a day), taken at regular intervals and ingested in small quantities. From the third month onwards, the food can be solid and varied, but must always be well chewed*.

How is the bypass operation performed in Tunisia?

The bypass in Tunisia is done under general anesthesia. The procedure takes 2 to 3 hours and requires 5 days of hospitalization. The procedure is done by laparoscopic surgery, using 5 small incisions (from 5 to 15 mm) made in the upper abdomen. These incisions are used to introduce the material necessary for the gastric section (the camera, the different instruments and the forceps).

The surgeon begins by cutting the upper part of the stomach. This allows him to make a small gastric pouch, with a capacity of about 25 ml.

Unlike gastric banding, this is an irreversible procedure. Indeed, the small intestine will be sewn onto the small pouch corresponding to the new stomach. This is what is called a bypass.

Guidelines for receiving gastric bypass surgery

Bypass surgery in Tunisia and other weight loss surgeries are major life-changing procedures. While weight loss surgery can help reduce the risk of weight-related health problems such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and sleep apnea, it can also present major risks and complications. You may need to meet certain medical guidelines in order to receive bariatric surgery.

In general, gastric bypass or other bariatric surgery may be an option for you if:

Efforts to lose weight through diet and exercise have not been successful.

Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher

Your BMI is 35 or higher and you have a serious weight-related health problem, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea

You are a teenager going through puberty, your BMI is 35 or higher, and you have serious obesity-related health problems such as type 2 diabetes or sleep apnea

In some cases, you may benefit from certain types of bariatric surgery if your BMI is between 30 and 34 and you have serious weight-related health problems.

*Disclaimer: results may vary from one person to another depending on the morphology of the patients.

Evaluate if you are ready for a Bypass in Tunisia

Even if you meet these requirements, you may need to meet certain other medical guidelines to qualify for bariatric surgery.

A team of health care professionals – usually including a physician, dietitian, psychologist and surgeon – will evaluate whether gastric bypass surgery or one of the other forms of bariatric surgery is right for you. This evaluation usually determines whether the health benefits of the surgery outweigh the potentially serious risks and whether you are medically ready to undergo the procedure.

The assessment also determines whether you are psychologically ready to undergo weight loss surgery. The procedure may increase certain risks in people with existing mental health conditions that are not being effectively managed.

Our team should consider these things when evaluating gastric bypass surgery:

Your diet and weight: The team looks at your weight trends, diet attempts, eating habits, exercise program, stress levels, time constraints, motivation and other factors.

Your health status: Some health conditions increase the risks associated with surgery or may be made worse by surgery, such as blood clots, liver disease, heart problems, kidney stones and nutritional deficiencies. The team will evaluate any medications you are taking, the amount of alcohol you drink and whether you smoke. You will be evaluated for sleep apnea and receive a complete physical exam and laboratory tests. The results of these tests and examinations may help determine if you can benefit from weight loss surgery.

Your psychological condition: Certain mental health problems may contribute to obesity or make it more difficult for you to maintain the health benefits of gastric bypass surgery. These may include bulimia nervosa, substance abuse, anxiety disorders, major depression, schizophrenia, severe bipolar disorder, and problems related to childhood sexual abuse.

Your motivation: The team will also assess your willingness and ability to follow the recommendations made by your care team and to make the prescribed changes in your diet and exercise program. Find bypass surgery reviews in Tunisia on our Facebook page.
