Rhinoseptoplasty Tunisia: what is functional rhinoplasty in Tunisia?

A rhinosesptoplasty is a nose surgery operation which has not only an aesthetic but also a functional purpose.

It involves operating the bones and cartilage that give your nose its shape and structure in order to correct a malformation of the nose, but also to straighten a deviated septum that is a source of respiratory problems (the septum is the cartilage and bone inside the nose that divides the nostrils). This will allow you to have the nose shape you want and to breathe easily through both nostrils.

A rhinoseptoplasty Tunisia combines two nose surgeries :

  • A rhinoplasty: modification of the appearance of the nose to make it more attractive.
  • A septoplasty: straightening of the nasal septum in order to unclog the nose.

Tunisia rhinoseptoplasty can therefore be called functional rhinoplasty or aesthetic septoplasty.

Rhinoseptoplasty in Tunisia: what you need to know before you go ahead

The first step of the functional rhinoseptoplasty procedure is the preoperative check-up. The surgeon evaluates the physical structure and characteristics of your nose. He takes into account your symptoms (breathing difficulties) as well as your general state of health. Following this evaluation, he will be able to determine whether or not your expectations are realistic. He must also discuss with you what rhinoseptoplasty can do for you, as well as the risks, recovery time and cost of the procedure.

How is the rhinoseptoplasty operation in Tunisia?

A rhinoseptoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, and requires an overnight hospital stay. The procedure lasts between 1 hour and 2h30.

Rhinoseptoplasty is performed in two stages:

The septoplasty
The incisions are made inside the nose. The cartilage and bones are then lifted and returned to an upright position. The nasal septum and septum are thus straightened and breathing becomes more fluid.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty acts on the cartilage and bone structures of the nose. This step consists of refining the nose and modifying its external structure. This intervention is not systematic. It depends on the defects to be treated and the patient’s preferences: reduction of cartilage, correction of a bump, reconstruction of part of the nose…

Surgical suites for rhinoseptoplasty surgery in Tunisia

After a rhinoseptoplasty, two weeks off are required. Social interactions should be avoided as much as possible for fear of catching a cold that could cause an infection. Respiratory discomfort is generally felt during the first few days.
There is usually the appearance of edema (swelling) and bruising. Most will disappear after the third week.
Physical exertion and hot baths should be avoided during the first few weeks. Bending down should also be avoided. It is necessary to ask the doctor for advice before resuming sports activities.
It may take several months before your nose stabilizes and the final appearance develops.

Possible complications

As far as anesthesia is concerned, during the consultation, the anesthesiologist will himself inform the patient of the anesthetic risks.

It is important to know that anesthesia induces in the organism reactions that are sometimes unpredictable and more or less easy to control: the fact of having recourse to a perfectly competent Anesthetist, working in a truly surgical context, means that the risks incurred have become statistically very low.
Indeed, it is important to know that techniques, anesthetic products and monitoring methods have made immense progress over the last thirty years, offering optimal safety, especially when the operation is performed outside the emergency room and in a healthy person.

As far as the surgical procedure is concerned: by choosing a qualified and competent Plastic Surgeon, trained for this type of intervention, you limit these risks as much as possible, without however completely eliminating them.
Fortunately, real complications are rare following a properly performed rhinoseptoplasty. In practice, the vast majority of procedures are trouble-free and patients are fully satisfied with the results. However, despite their rarity, you should be informed of possible complications:

Bleeding: it is possible in the first few hours but usually remains very moderate. When they are too severe, they may justify a new, more extensive wicking, or even a repeat operation in the operating room.
Hematomas: they may require evacuation if they are large or too painful.
Infection: despite the natural presence of microbes in the nasal fossae, it is very rare. If it does occur, it quickly justifies appropriate treatment.
Unsightly scars: These can only concern external scars (when they exist) and are only very rarely so unsightly as to require touching up.
Skin injuries: although rare, they are always possible, often as a result of a nasal splint or smoking. Simple wounds or erosions heal spontaneously without leaving any traces, unlike skin necrosis, which is fortunately exceptional and often leaves a small area of scarred skin.
Mucosal and cartilage damage: a few rare cases of perforation of the nasal septum have been reported when the septum had to be reshaped. This septal perforation often goes unnoticed, but can sometimes generate an annoying wheezing sound and then warrant surgical repair.
