G-spot augmentation (or G-spot amplification) consists of injecting a filler, most often hyaluronic acid, into the front wall of the vagina to temporarily increase its volume. It is requested by women who wish to change their sensations during intercourse.
Good to know before deciding: its effectiveness has not been demonstrated. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG, Committee Opinion No. 795, 2020) lists G-spot amplification among procedures that are not medically indicated and whose safety and effectiveness have not been documented. Low desire or difficulty reaching orgasm should first be discussed with a doctor or a sex therapist.
The “G-spot” refers to an area of the front wall of the vagina, along the urethra, described as more sensitive in some women; its existence as a distinct anatomical structure is still debated. Augmentation can be done with a fat injection (lipofilling), but the most common technique is a hyaluronic acid injection, a resorbable product. Like any injection, it carries risks: pain, bleeding, infection, altered sensation, pain during intercourse, nodules or, more rarely, scarring or adhesions.

The first step is the consultation with the gynecologist. The gynecologist will ask you questions about your general health and your sexual health. Following this evaluation, the gynecologist will determine if you are a good candidate for G-spot augmentation (if it is determined that your sexual disorder is organic, such as a loose vagina, another treatment will be prescribed). He or she will also need to discuss the risks, recovery time and cost of the procedure with you.

The hyaluronic acid injection is performed in the doctor’s office, without general anaesthesia or hospital stay: an anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand. After inserting a speculum, the doctor injects hyaluronic acid into the front wall of the vagina. It takes a few minutes and may be uncomfortable despite the anaesthetic cream.
Recovery is usually simple: some discomfort or tingling may be felt during the first days. Avoid sexual intercourse for 72 hours after the injection; most women return to work immediately. Hyaluronic acid is gradually absorbed over a few months; any effect on sensation is not guaranteed.
According to the ACOG, possible complications of this type of procedure include infection, altered sensation, pain during intercourse (dyspareunia), adhesions and scarring. Risks common to any injection also apply: bleeding, bruising, inflammatory reaction, nodules. Seek medical advice without delay in case of fever, severe pain, abnormal discharge or bleeding.
