Penoplasty is a cosmetic surgery and includes lengthening the penis and/or increasing its girth. This procedure is done for men whose penis is smaller than average, causing them physical and psychological concerns.
Two types of penoplasty exist:
– Penile girth enhancement is designed to increase the shaft circumference, both flaccid and erect. This is done using a lipofilling technique. The surgeon performs fat injection using the patient’s own body fat to increase the girth of the penis.
– Penile lengthening penoplasty is only effective on the length of flaccid penis. This surgery is aimed more at athletes because it does not improve a man’s sex life. The penis is lengthened by cutting the suspensory ligament that connects the corpus cavernosum to the pubic bone at the root of the penis, thereby exposing more of the penis. The length of the flaccid penis increases by 3 to 6 cm.
Before your surgery
– A preoperative blood test is carried out as prescribed.
– It is recommended that you stop smoking at least 15 days before surgery.
Penile girth enhancement:
Fat is extracted on the belly and thighs using a fine aspiration cannula. The amount of fat removed depends on the patient’s reserves and the penis anatomy. Fat is filtrated through centrifugation and microinjected through small incisions, using fine cannulas, between the skin of the penile sheath and the corpus cavernosum.
Penile lengthening penoplasty:
Lengthening of the penis is achieved by cutting the suspensory ligament that connects the penis to the pubic bone, thereby exposing more of the penis.
The incision line is closed using an inverted Y- suture located on the pubis and going down the scrotum, or in a Z suture.
At the end of the surgery, your penis will be covered with a non-compressing airtight dressing.
The surgery can last from 1 to 1.5 hours. The increase in penile length ranges from 3 to 6 cm (flaccid state only).
After your surgery
Penile girth enlargement:
– You will have some penile swelling for the first few days following surgery.
– You may take a shower the next day. No bandage is necessary.
– Make sure you wear loose underpants for the first few weeks. Tight underwear could cause undesirable compression.
– You do not usually need to take time off work.
– Sutures thread will usually be absorbed within 10 to 15 days following surgery, when healing has occurred.
– Make sure you wait 2 to 3 weeks to gradually resume sexual activity, which is nonetheless possible once the anti-erection treatment has been completed. The use of a lubricated condom is recommended to avoid irritation.
Penile lengthening penoplasty:
– Swelling and bruising are normal after penile lengthening.
– Very careful local care will be performed daily for about 10 days or until complete healing.
– You are required to wear support underwear over the bandages for 15 days to avoid scar tension.
– Sutures thread will usually be absorbed within 10 to 15 days following surgery, when healing has occurred.
– You may shower again after complete healing.
– We recommend that you wait 3 weeks to gradually resume sexual activity.
– You will generally be able to return to work within 5 to 10 weeks post-surgery, depending on the nature of your work.
