Clitoral hood reduction involves removing part of the skin covering the clitoris, when it is considered too thick or too long. The aim is mainly aesthetic (the appearance of the vulva) and sometimes for comfort, for example in case of discomfort with tight-fitting clothing.
Please note: there is little scientific data on the outcomes of intimate cosmetic surgery. The first step is the pre-operative check-up. The surgeon will examine you and ask you questions about your general health and the problem that concerns you. The anatomical examination of the clitoris must be accompanied by an interrogation so that the doctor can determine exactly the patient’s wishes and expectations. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, without hospitalization, and takes a little less than an hour.
The surgeon makes an incision in the clitoral hood, removes the excess tissue, and then closes with absorbable sutures. A dressing is then applied to protect the area.
In the first few days, swelling, bruising and some discomfort are common; simple painkillers are usually enough. Normal activities can usually resume after a few days. It is recommended to avoid sexual intercourse and physical exertion during the first month, and to maintain rigorous hygiene (daily shower) to reduce the risk of infection. The scar generally fades over time, but the result varies from person to person.
